I took a random group and ended up in the Pit of Saron, one of the new instances implemented in patch 3.3, which happened a week or 2 ago, so they are still very new and popular.

The rest of the group wanted to clear the entire instance, which is unusual, usually anything that can be skipped will be, as only the bosses drop the coveted emblems. After a bit I gleaned they were after an item that drops on trash mobs and they really wanted it! I thought it was an item that you could use in combination with emblems to get something special. I was not sure I wanted that because I wanted my gloves and getting such an item would mean I had to save up my emblems!

About halfway through the item actually dropped! It was a battered hilt. "This item begins a quest", said the tooltip. Everyone roll need was the order and so I did. I won the roll. There were groans and gratzes and I politely said "cool" in party chat ;p. I linked it in guild chat with a questionmark and there was a lot of excitement. Hmm. We finished the instance and I started the quest. What followed was one of the most awesome epic questlines I have ever done. I did it all in one day, I just couldn't stop.

First you take it to the Sunreavers in Icecrown at Quel'Delar's rest to ask them what it might be. They don't know and send you to Korialstrasz (aka Krasus), the red dragon consort at Wyrmrest Temple. He knows of a book but the Silver Covenant, the Sunreaver's rivals, got it first. Darn! You need to go to Dalaran and ask for help in getting it. Luckily this person is in the Filthy Animal inn, center of Horde life in Dalaran. You are send into the sewers to gather information. You end up killing an informer for the information they carry. Then you have to infiltrate the Silver Covenant order. You need to get a tabard. You get this from the guy who does the laundry in exchange for some help. So you help with the laundry. All in a day's work for a hero.

Now it gets fun. The tabard is enchanted and you get a disguise when wearing it so you can go into an area that's normally closed off for members of the Horde. There you get the book of a scribe. You return with it to the Sunreavers in Icecrown. Turns out the blade they are guarding and your hilt are Quel'Delar! Blood-Queen Lana'Thel of the San'layn (not a clue who they are, Scourge bad guys anyway) pops up and tells you a bit about the history of the sword before she destroys it.

The Sunreavers are now determined to restore the sword as it is part of their heritage. You are send to first reforge and then to temper the sword in 2 instances. But alas, the blade is not restored! Woe! A geas prompts you to go to the 3rd of the Icrown instances. When you enter Uther the Lightbringer is there and warns you to stop. The sword escapes and attacks you (if you know this you will bring a friend with good armour, I got a random passerby to help out). Then you conquer the sword and Uther tells you to cleanse it of evil in the Sunwell. Okay why not.

You travel to Quel'Danas. The people there are not impressed and ask you to prove that you really carry Quel'delar. Okay. You hunt down the corpse of Thalorien Dawnseeker, the original owner, and have some sort of vision where you go back in time and help him defeat some Scourge. He is happy you helped him and hands you the certificate of ownership (nah, he gives a blessing). With this you return to the entrance to the Sunwell.

You get to go in. This is epic. The Sunwell is blazing and you meet with Lor'themar, better known as "that guy who rules Silvermoon, what's his name". You throw the sword in the Sunwell and there is a spot of bother because Silvermoon guy thinks he can pick it up but it is YOURS alone. Once this is cleared up you return to Icecrown to talk to the Sunreavers. The sword is yours!

Of course, as a Shaman I can't wield swords. So the sword goes into the Argent Crusade vaults and I got to pick up a really bloody nice mace instead: Cudgel of Furious Justice. And I also got my gloves ;p

::dustbunnies::
Gosh, it's been a while! Lots of things happend since the last entry, a lot of it more of the same. Such is life. The big change is my move, I finally traded my shoebox apartment for one the size of at least 2 shoeboxes! This is amazing and great. I made a trip to Atlanta and met a bunch of formerly virtual friends. That was a lot of fun. I visited my first con, that was hilarious.

Now that winter is approaching and the days get shorter I get crabbier and play more WoW, which alternately cheers me up or makes me more crabby. Work is as always a necessary evil. The lottery gods seem unwilling to release me from its plight ;p

My love for FMA is still intense but hasn't been properly fed for a while which makes me sad. I reread a sad fic last weekend and it's still affecting me. Arion's shirt has a butterfly print and there is a half skirt under the long sleeveless vest. oO. Yes. I will make photos of this one day.

Astrid's stock wig is a really bizarre mess of brown frizz, which I anticipated so I had the blonde flip ready. She looks absolutely great! Arion had a little accident, his shoulder part was broken (by me ><) and when I glued it back together I got glue on his face and in his hair. It feels weird, I'm not all that angry but really disheartened. I don't know. Right now I don't feel like playing ever again but we'll see if that feeling subsides in the next few days.

The WoW Valentine Day event was really screwy and Blizzard more or less said they did that on purpose because too many people were gunning for the end reward, they are artificially thinning the herd. Of course, with my awesome luck, this meant I was one of those who lost out. Getting all the Holiday achievements done was my playing goal for the year. I missed this one, not because I did something wrong but because Blizzard deliberately skewed the odds. I can't get my head around it.

The way people talk on the forum make it all sound as if it is some sort of cult and people who do not agree with whatever Blizz thinks up are undeserving heretics. In white to match the Macbook. I was very excited but the thing did not quite live up to expectations. For one: it is a phone, not a mini Mac. It's terribly rigid in what it can and will do. This frustrated me no end. Things went better after I got DiskAid, which let you copy files to the thing like it's a disc. Secondly: iToner, which makes iPhone compatible ringtones from MP3 files.

Then I got a few things from the App store, Bejeweled (of course) and a very good Dutch dictionary (van Dale). Now, if I can get the typing working for me I might start to like it after all.

::picture fail::
Just took a bunch of pics of Liss, my new Bouquet Pullip in the shitty winter light. There was a big outage at national level. I'm pretty miffed at the ease which wich nearly 12 hours loss of service is downplayed by my ISP. I was on the phone with the helpdesk, after being on hold for half an hour, and they only said we can't do anything and have no clue how long it will take. And after hours, SOL. Not even a message on the voicemail! I don't know, maybe I'm an exceptional case or something (yeah, right) but I rely on being online.

I missed the Saturday evening raid, which pissed me off no end and I found out I really hate not being online! I can't stand not having instant acces to information. Television news bulletins are very static. Our 2 local channels make a bulletin once a day and just repeat that. National news has 3 or 4 topics and that's it. In the end I went to bed early with a book. I did finally watch The Wedding Banquet and an episode of QI.

Sunday I was wide awake at 8 am and went online at once. I don't care a hoot about this holiday and my idea of a fun day is playing wow with coffee and snacks. (Before wow there were other things I played and really, just gazing at my navel fluff is a great way to spend time). But my parents always made a big deal of the "togetherness" and the "importance of family". While I am (mostly) aware that my parents are full of shit, I actually bought this and went along. This year however they suddenly announced they had booked themselves on the local christmas fair. I was livid. Mostly at myself, I felt suckered into believing my parents, the king and queen of crap, really thought this holiday the most important day of the year which had to, had to, be spend at home. Their home of course. Yeah, until the moment they had something else to do.

Another part of the gaaaah! is that with my father's sister gone he has no immediate family left. His children never ranked all that high on the scale of people who matter so I can totally see how he felt he was free to do this. And my mother merrily bullshitting her way along.

At first they "thought" (because actually checking your facts is for losers *eyeroll*) they had christmas day off but this turned out to be untrue, they had to work that day as well. After a lot of teeth gnashing and headdesking I asked what they wanted to do with christmas. They wanted us (their kids) to come and have christmas dinner. And we didn't have to bring anything. Really. Honestly. Okay. So I show up at around 6.30, since they worked until 6.

My mom was already at home, having just arrived, my dad arrived a few minutes after me. My mom started with: I don't know why I came home so early, I thought you'd already be here. Yeah, because sitting around waiting for you to get home is a great way for me to spend time. Oh, I forget, what I might like does not enter into this. Plus, as it turned out, you had expected me to start preparations for the dinner, didn't you? You were slightly disappointed that I had not taken the initiative to come early and start doing all these kinds of things that I would magically know needed to be doing. You could have asked me to help out but no, never ever. If it does not happen completely spontaneous it is not what you want and therefore void. But you really want it anyway and have to drop a remark here and there anyway. Progress on my part: it irked me but I did not feel guilty! I am not around to guess what you might possibly hope I will do.

My dad came home, hugged me, felt my back and said: you really need to lose... but I should not say anything about that. No. You should not. But you just did anyway. My weight is none of your business! The several casual remarks during the evening about how the two of you didn't actually eat at all, hahaha, the last couple of days, like some insane brag, did not go over well.

I understand that you completely fail to see how you were the one to instil the worst food habits in your children, stuffing them like geese and making a huge deal about eating as much as they possibly can, until it turns out they gain weight. Then it's suddenly their own gluttony and their responsibility to not eat anything even though the rest of the family continues to eat as much as they possibly can.

I was not a fat kid but my brother was and so was one of my cousins. The bizarre turn around from "eateateateat" to "you should not eat" only became clear to me much later and these days I am fat myself. I can an will eat until I am sick, my body never says "enough". My parents were completely indifferent to everything their children did, the only thing in which they showed any emotion, any positive reinforcement was with the eating. Textbook stuff.

At some point my sis in law showed up with the nieces. Hello nieces. It's very obvious the youngest is the favourite. My dad has remarked upon this in the past, but spineless weed that he is, he's going along with it now, being pointedly sweet and nice to youngest niece and exacting and brusque with eldest. OMG, it's like looking at the past. Eldest and me are BFF (she is 10).

During dinner the question comes up why in hell they had to take this fair job. They giggle. I point out how they always were so very adamant that christmas had to be spend at home, most important day of the year etcetc. Mom: and we always did. (Yeah, but you did not now, which is the point). Dad: but sweetie, we're making money. And this was what I expected, so I was able to use my "OMG, I didn't realise things were going so bad!". Which I know is not true. And they were quick to confirm this.
Al in all the true answer was clear: we felt like it.

Meanwhile my mom is drinking a little too fast, which is not unexpected but in the current atmosphere of things not being quite right it is annoying. I make an offhand remark that I might possibly like an espresso machine someday. Mom goes in a thing that there is this machine upstairs that she was keeping for me because I had said I wanted it! And I should have said if I didn't want it because the she could do something with it! I had completely forgotten about it and don't care so she can do as she pleases. I don't want it.

She goes on and on and this does not sit well with me because! Last summer I was casually informed my dad had thrown out the cupboard I had inherited from my grandmother. It was with them because I don't have space and I had asked, several times, if it was okay, if it was safe and so on. Well, my dad had a cleaning frenzy one day and threw it out. He told me a few weeks later and the two of them were all wide eyed innocence when I was actually pretty mad. So I did rather snappishly remark that I didn't buy she would keep something for me if she really had other plans for it. She did the wide eyed innocence again and my dad muttered that I was being sooo unpleasant.

A little later eldest niece had started up the Mac and was doing typing lessons. I remark that this is something I really should learn, it's really convenient to know how to type properly. And my mom goes all miffish that I COULD have learned but I didn't WANT to. And I get riled up because all I remember is that there was opportunity at elementary school, when I was 6 years old, to teach this yourself, there was a typewriter and a lesson book. For fuck's sake, we are not going into the "opportunities you wasted because you were a stubborn brat" again, are we because that really pisses me off.

Mom goes on and it dawns on me that she is talking about the computer lessons I could have taken in secondary school but didn't because at the time I didn't care about computers AT ALL. And to this day I don't see why I should have gone to those classes but my mom likes to bring this up now and then. I actually say: do you think i missed out on something? but that is confrontational so she backs up as fast as she can.

Man, having written this it is inchorent and obnoxious and mostly a rehashing of old woes. TL;DR: they pushed all my buttons and couldn't have done better if they actually went out of their way to upset me. Same old same old. Gah.

::greed::
WoW is still going strong with a little break for the christmas from hell, about which I might write some more later, if I can get beyond foaming at the mouth. Skag has 49 vanity pets now and a 52nd mount, the Bronze Drake. The Winter Veil achievements have been finished and we're basically back to daily life.

So far Skag has been pretty haphazardly levelled to 80, haphazardly quested around, did various achievements and continuing in this vein, yesterday she haphazardly got her first level 80 epic:

Greed is a main hand fist weapon and looks like a hand puppet. I guess this will need to be enchanted properly. I need to haphazardly look into new enchants.

There was also a guild run on Mount Hyjal yesterday and I got the T6 gloves ;p It was barely an upgrade since Skag still had her badge gloves (fully gemmed and enchanted though) but it's fun for the time being. T6 was the pinnacle in BC and is now basically worthless but I'm still a little proud :)

::flight of the conchords::
I love these guys.

::update::
Quick WoW update for posterity: 10 Winter Veil achievements done, 2 to go. Well, no, I went completely nuts and raced around frothing at the mouth and having a blast. There are 12 achievements for Winter Veil, which lasts until January 2. I did 5 and a half. The half because I ran out of snowflakes to throw at people .

I saved Santa's reindeer (On Metzen), I made the Winter Veil food (The Winter Veil Gourmet), I rode a flying reindeer (Fa-la-la-la-Ogri'la), I threw a snowball at a believer (Scrooge) and I got some guys under the mistletoe (Bros. I also fed Santa and he gave me a present!

This is awesome fun!

(Oh, Skag also got her mining up to 450, that's the first skill done. I don't have a screenshot because I did get the add on but forgot to turn it on :( Now I'm a bit lost, what to do now? There's still a zillion quests, Skag is mostly still in her epic level 70 gear and therefore completely outdated.

She needs 6 more vanity pets and 23 mounts for the respective achievements. All skills (mining, engineering, cooking, fishing, first aid and various weapons) need levelling to 450. Where to start?

My new favourite npc is Koltira Deathweaver. Skag met him in Dragonblight (Aarghyle met him before, when he was still in service of the Lich King) and he was so obnoxious yet clearly a tortured soul, the only response seemed to be "Aw, Koltira, you so dreamy" ;p The Sephiroth effect if you like, though Koltira is one of the good guys (for now).

Aarghyle definitely looks less dead ;p Poor Aargh is currently grinding for an Azure Whelpling which might last until he's level 80 or I die of boredom, whichever happens first.

::fresh::
Skagerak is in Northrend, merrily questing her way to 80:

"It's cold here, mon, and I'm not wearing any shoes."

::buff::
Aarghyle now wanders the world, a little lost but free. Aarghyle however has never been a hero, he was a dealer in mana fragments and his own best customer. With a bit of luck and a couple of extra eggs I should make exalted today, which will open up the final quest: the one that gives you the Netherdrake, a giant dragon mount. I do want to get exalted with the Sha'tari Skyguard as well but will do that in between questing. In Northrend we will have the flying skill again at level 77, before that I want to be done with the Skyguard. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit. However, chaotic good can be a dangerous alignment because it disrupts the order of society and punishes those who do well for themselves.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Secondary Class:
Rogues have little in common with each other. While some - maybe even the majority - are stealthy thieves, many serve as scouts, spies, investigators, diplomats, and simple thugs. Rogues are versatile, adaptable, and skilled at getting what others don't want them to get. While not equal to a fighter in combat, a rogue knows how to hit where it hurts, and a sneak attack can dish out a lot of damage. Rogues also seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Experienced rogues develop nearly magical powers and skills as they master the arts of stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. In addition, while not capable of casting spells on their own, a rogue can sometimes 'fake it' well enough to cast spells from scrolls, activate wands, and use just about any other magic item.

Find out What Kind of Dungeons and Dragons Character Would You Be?, courtesy of Easydamus (e-mail)

::sheepish::
I have to admit it, I have not quite given up on wow. I've let go of a lot of expectations concerning Jutta though and the time spend online has been reduced drastically. But I still try to make the current regular Kara run, Friday and Sunday at 04.30, which is quite an effort. And last weekend I've played with a toon I'd created ages ago, a Troll Shaman named Skagerak, on a PVE server. And I had more fun with her than I've had since Jutta made level 70 :/

Now, I'm reluctant to let it completely absorb me again but I do like the idea of some fun play. I wish I could drop the levelling urgency and just enjoy the game but it's hard. My end that is; there is more content but I'm not going to see it. My character is about 70% in epics, half of those Kara gear. Yeah, I've been to Karazhan a couple of times, even finished it once. But to go beyond that I'd need the maximum amount of Kara gear and I can't manage to do it more often. The timzone difference is proving to be an insurmountable problem.

I'm not happy about it, now that it's not me losing interest but circumstances dictacting that further progress is impossible. I am at a loss. I spend the weekend alternately crying with frustration, and trying to see the positives, like having my life back but it's only now that I'm slowly beginning to accept that it just is the way it is.

It's kinda hard to see the time I've spend on my character as time well spend on fun instead of time wasted now that I'm stuck. I spend a long time in a guild I don't care about expecting to get something out of it at a certain point and that won't happen. I'm toying with the idea of starting over at the EU servers but I don't really want to, I've already put in my time levelling up. I did download the trail version, I have started a toon but I've not made up my mind to seriously pursue it. It would be wiser to quit but I'm not ready to completely let go yet. I suppose it will peter out over the next weeks.

Meanwhile I've been buying doll stuff like there's no tomorrow and the weather is improving. Photos soon!

::quote::
Bergen Evans | The Natural History of Nonsense:
The civilized man has a moral obligation to be skeptical, to demand the credentials of all statements that claim to be facts. I resented every thing, feeling like I never had time to do anything I wanted properly. I even was sick of wow and its demands.

I decided to drop any expectations from wow and just take it as it comes. I don't need to level asap, that is just self-inflicted stress I don't need. Of course it turned into an awesome play-day after that. Mikke showed me a great game with flying over this village and bombing the guards; I met the GM (guild master) of my old guild and he said he'd give his main hand sword to have me back <3. And then I pugged 2 instances with the best group since the Sacred Fire days and I loved it. So. Much. When you do these things with players who know what they're doing and enable you to do what you're doing well? It's just the greatest game. I levelled to 64 and got a great weapon out of it in the bargain.

Meanwhile I got a christmas present from Mikke and it is pure love. Japanese candies galore and the cutest little Hello Kitty lamp <3

And I went out and got myself a wake up light, which is an alarm clock that slowly starts to glow half an hour before you're supposed to wake up. It glows brighter and brighter and at some point nature sounds start to play. And it's too soon to tell but I did wake up today without that feeling of lead in my stomach that I've been having for weeks now, the feeling that you don't really wake up until you've been at work for a couple of hours. I have high hopes here.

::on and on::
A day or so after the November 16 entry Sacred Fire suddenly disbanded. I was flabbergasted and very sad; this guild was the best thing that happened to me playwise since I'd started. A week or so later I found a new guild: Phoenix Rising, a proper raid guild; I'm the baby. My player note said (until my mates started to mess with it): "Not actually anybody's alt". This amused me.

Sadly it does mean they are no good for the old content. I'm level 62 now and supposed to spend all my time in Outland, grinding quickly to 70 so I can be of use ;p The goal of making 70 by the end of the year is most likely too ambitious however. And I feel I'm missing out by just blindly levelling, my skill set needs to grow as well! Still, it's a LOT of work and time is running out.

At first I found it very hard to make xp after I hit 60, soooo much was needed for the next level, but I seem to have the hang of it now. I found an area, Zangarmarsh, where I can do some old-fashioned kiting. Though I still get ganked on a regular basis at least I now do a certain amount of damage in return. I can see the day I might win approaching.

::wow trailer::

::advancement::
The only thing that seems to be moving forward in my life at the moment in is my WoW level: 56 as of yesterday. The current guild is very active and chatty, I like that, even if you can just snarl "Got ganked AGAIN" on occassion. My buddy Fantaysia and I played until the reboot happened, we were questing in Stranglethorn Valley, a "highly contested area". We got into one fairly equal PVP fight (we lost). It turned, as usual, into a gankfest where we were killed 4 or 5 times by high level players (if a player of the opposite faction is more than 10 levels above you their level appears as ??) but we accomplished our goal inbetween trips to the graveyard. Fun!

After the reboot I was very keen to try out the voicechat. Luckily the second in command of my guild, Kaninfodder, logged on and we created a chat channel. It worked, I heard a strange voice! OMG. I completely freaked, suddenly I was expected to speak and not only that, to produce reasonably understandable English! Aaargh. I have no problems whatsoever with this in textchat but now I only managed a couple of stilted sentences and logged off as fast as I could. I hope I'll get used to it, it's very convenient. I really wonder though, if it will still be the same low level of social interaction I enjoy so much or if it will cost more energy.

::resentment::
I'm in a bit of a bad mood because I don't feel too great but I need to have another WoW vent. Just mentioning this so any particular nastiness in tone is covered ;p I'm so incredibly addicted at the moment, I resent having to do other things, like work. Like cleaning and doing grocery shopping, heck, even fun shopping has become a chore that gets in the way of the only thing I really want to do. Which is almost strange as I'm level 42 now and have the early level blues I had in the early 30s as well; things seem hard because it looks like there is such a long way to go and you are low in your level bracket again. Yesterday I had a very satisfying play day though (visited Tanaris with my buddy Honou) and I just want to go on and on. And on. And on.

This paragraph is rather heavy on the WoW speak, just go with the flow, or skip it. I've upgraded to BC, bought it on amazon.com and received it within 3 days. I wish stuff I send/receive nationally would arrive as fast! I don't have the energy for a postal services rant but they DO deserve it. The additions look fantastic. Shattrath has some of the most gorgeous smoke effects I've ever seen! I've started a Draenei Paladin and she is so cute! The Draenei look more anime-ish than the other races, which appeals to me. Duh. I've started a Bloodelf Warlock and he is supremely bishie XD

Ganking still is a serious issue for me, both in practise, though I take it ever so slightly better in stride these days, and psychologically. I loathe (resent is too weak a word here) the gankster attitude. If it wasn't for the simple fact that everyone I know plays on this server I would transfer to a PVE (=player versus environment) one. I don't get the point of casual PVP(=player versus player). As far as I can see the reward you get when you survive 70 levels of ganking is that you will be able to gank other people. I don't really understand the attraction. Experiencing and getting glimpses of the minds of the type of people who do enjoy this force me to look at certain aspects of humanity I've no desire to witness at all. Lord of the Flies was spot on I'm afraid. Oh well.

::dollies::
New dollies! Biggest timesuck ever, as expected. To think I actually held it off for a few years; people would ask me whether I played it, since it seemed my thing. And I always said: my Mac can't hack it and it's for the best, 'cause it would eat me. Then I joined the COE and some of my chat buddies played. I got really curious. Eventually I did install it on the G4, just to see if it would actually run. And it did, albeit horribly. But by that time I knew I was getting the Macbook and it was so much fun..

Here we are now: my Nightelf druid is level 31, my Dwarf hunter level 24. I found a Guild for the druid that seems active and helpful. The hunter has a Ghost Saber for a pet and if you let me I'll tell you all about her (Her name is Kitty! She is transparent!).

We've arrived at the point where I see a mailbox in the street and look up to my right to see if I have any mail. If you ask me if I have pets my response might be: 2, Moya and Kitty. My social life has been in steady decline since my obsession for FMA and this is not helping. I know it's bad for me, not smart to sink all this time in a game but I love it so much. I don't want to quit or cut down. And I'm not going to, unless something happens to shake me out of it. I don't want that to happen. I want it to just burn out on its own, which could take from a few weeks to years and years.

::regret::
Sometimes being an impulse buyer with a credit card backfires, which is what happened to me. Livejournal offered Permanent Accounts a month or so ago, a chance to pay a reasonable amount once and be subscribed until the company goes under or you die, whichever happens first. At first I was wavering, a little, because there had been a kerfluffle right before that, a sudden hunt for pedophilia came out of nowhere and lots of accounts had been suspended willy nilly, including abuse survivors and fanfiction. It did look like this had been resolved, and dammit, I really like my community on LJ. So, of course I went ahead and got the account.

Now, a month later, LJ has suspended 2 accounts of fanartists. The why has been shifting as the outrage grew: it was underage sex, it was copyright infringement, it was just not good art. Now it seems they exercise the right to delete whatever strikes them as potentially illegal while pro-ana groups and white supremacists are fine and protected by the freedom of speech.

When LJ allowed everything I didn't mind about those communities existing. I hate them and what they stand for but in a free for all you can expect to have things you disagree with or even outright hate. That's what you get if you allow everything. If anything, it should teach you to be critical and take care where you tread.

But typically, only pron (technically it's erotica), and fanart at that, is under scrutiny. Because that is what advertisers look at and I have no illusion that this is about anything other than potential loss of revenue.

So, while I still love my community I loathe the company that owns the site, and deeply regret getting that Permanent Account. I hate to know that I supported this shitty company and no longer have a way to hold money from them. Oh, of course no-one is ever getting a subscription as a gift ever again but for myself it's too late.

I do have a 10 gig photo album there, so if you ever need a place to host a huge image? Just let me know, I have plenty of server space.

:;gankwank::
As expected, World of Warcraft is a serious timesuck. My main character, Jutta, is level 27 now and it's just such fun! Most of the time anyway. The one major drawback is my fellow players. Not all of them but man, there is something about being anonymous that turns certain people into assholes.

One part of the WOW gameplay is the 2 factions, Alliance and Horde, who can only communicate through combat in certain areas. So far so good. But now you are around the level where you start to visit the gray (contested) areas, those where both factions roam, even though you are still nowhere good enough to fight other players (pvp) at all. What happens is this: highlevel gits from the other faction meet a low level character and just kill them because they can. They don't get any reward out of it or anything, it's just to be a jerk. They jeer and laugh while they do it. This is called ganking.

Yesterday, for example, I was questing in such a place, a contested area, named Ashenvale. I died once while questing, because I had just barely managed to kill the level 30 NPC I needed to kill and while I was getting what I needed from his corpse, one of his minions came up and finished me off. Bugger. But, while moving around and turning in quests, I was ganked 5 times. By 5 different players; this is not something that happens occassionally, it is a major part of the interaction.

Why? This question has been wailed by gankees throughout history. And the answer is very simple: because quite a lot of people who can hide their identity, and do whatever they like without the risk of personal consequences, turn out to be scummy bastards. And on my black days I am convinced that this is not restricted to an online game.

ikea hacker
I dearly love Ikea but it does get old to see the same stuff everywhere.
